Oh, Autumn.. how I love you.
The leaves become an array of warm tones, the afternoons are seemingly dipped in gold light, and summer… well, leaves us. It’s a time of change, uncertainty, and endings for most of us on Cape Cod. These days I’ve done a lot of reading, exploring and adoring… not so much writing. What stops me from publishing drafts and thoughts and posts? Beats me. I’d like to rattle of reasons like “I haven’t had time to edit” (yes I have), “My media-integration is shit” (So what), “I want to wait until….”, it’s probably just fear. Most definitely fear. Fear that you, whoever “you is”, (the collective other that we all have drawn up in our minds and egos) won’t like it. Fear that this won’t jive with the rest of my website. Fear that there’s a typo, it’s boring, there’s not enough traffic coming to the site, blah blah blah.
I’ve drawn up a list to keep me fighting feelings of inadequacy though… I thought it best I start sharing thoughts and moments like this with the rest of you.. to, you know, fight of feelings of inadequacy.
How to kick Inadequacy’s ass
- Tell those feelings to fuck off.
- This is YOUR life.
- You are in charge.
You(we!) have two options:
- Accept the present, or flip the F out.
- Freak out or don’t.
- Laugh it off or let it fester.
It’s your sanity. It’s your life. Take charge.
At the end of the day, it’s your thoughts you are left to do battle with. Not your boss’s, mother’s, friend’s, random-dude-on-instagram-calling-you-awhore. If you can go to bed and be happy with your S-E-L-F, then congratulations, day One of the Rest of your life has come to an end. Tomorrow begins.. tomorrow.
If you’ve made it this far in my random rant of a post… then thank you, I love you.
